Mike and Rhonda's Editing Experience
Mike Schienle brings decades of hands-on expertise in proofreading, copyediting and line editing. Mike began working in high school in the late 1970's at his mother's "Letter Shop", where customers brought in everything from resumes to college papers and business documents to be proofed, typed and printed. Mike reviewed hundreds of these documents, marking up sentence structure, grammar and misspellings.
As Mike's career moved into Aerospace, Finance, and Consulting, he authored proposals, technical manuals and program documentation with precision and clarity. Since 2017, he has helped independent authors prepare their books, articles and manuals for self-publishing success.

Packages and Pricing
Since line editing, copyediting, and proofreading have overlapping meanings, we'll address our definitions of each and recognize that most requests will request more than one definition. These are listed in order of highest cost and complexity down to lowest cost and are normally performed in this sequence. The prices below are estimates and vary on the writing style, expected audience (casual readers vs. academic or business readers, technical manuals, etc.).
Line Editing (about $0.035 per word, or $1,750 for a 50,000 word manuscript)
Focuses on the creative and stylistic aspects of the writing at the sentence and paragraph level. Improves flow, clarity, rhythm, tone, word choice, sentence structure, transitions, and overall prose quality while preserving the author's voice. It enhances readability and polish without addressing big-picture story issues.
Copyediting (about $0.025 per word, or $1,250 for a 50,000 word manuscript)
Focuses on technical accuracy, consistency, and correctness. Corrects grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, usage, factual inconsistencies (within reason), formatting, and adherence to a chosen style guide. Ensures the manuscript is clear, consistent, and professionally presented.
Proofreading (about $0.015 per word, or $750 for a 50,000 word manuscript)
The final check after layout/typesetting. Identifies and corrects any remaining typos, spelling errors, punctuation mistakes, formatting issues, widows/orphans, and minor inconsistencies that slipped through previous editing stages. It is a surface-level, meticulous review assuming the text is otherwise finalized.
Discounted Packages The above steps are usually packaged together as a discounted single price per word, per page, or a flat fee per project (book, manual, article, etc.), as appropriate. We can provide an estimate based on a 10-20 page (2,000 to 6,000 word) sample to provide an accurate price, which is our preferred approach.
